(July 1, 2009) Legislative Chair Bill Naegele: When all is said and done a lot gets said and nothing gets done. It is status quo in Springfield as legislators jammed I-55 to get out of town. They sent a budget to Gov. Pat Quinn that appropriates approximately 50% of last year's budget.

Layoff notices are already going out to some state employees and a lot of human services agencies are planning to close. The state has enough money to continue to operate at last year's levels for about 2 weeks.

Quinn has vowed to veto the budget which means that the state will begin to shut down soon if no further action is taken. Bethany Jaeger and her heroic team from Illinois Issues Magazine give great insight into all of the nonsense that took place yesterday. After a long, trying day some pundits were missing the good old days of Rod BlagojevichFor the full story, click on the hyperlink headline.

June 3 Update to Members' "Thank You"

(June 3, 2009) Many thanks for all the efforts you made to contact your state representatives and state senators by phone calls, emails and postcards. The Illinois General Assembly has passed a partial budget and is now in an overtime session requiring a 60% majority to pass a full budget.  However, it seems apparent via newspaper reports that Speaker Mike Madigan is determined to try to bring in the Two-tiered Pension Plan.  Currently, the best guess is that the members of the General Assembly will not return until 10 days.

As soon as the leadership of both parties firm up their positions, we will be asking you to call, email or write to influence them again. Legislative Chair Bill Naegele (pictured above) appreciates your efforts considering what is at stake for us all. We will put up more information on the website as soon as more information is available from the IFT. The struggle continues.
