Why the Oakton Pizza Party Makes October 21 Special

On Wednesday, Oct. 21, the Chapter Chair Patty Lucas’ Oakton Community College Classified Chapter held its annual Fall Pizza Party at Giordano’s in Morton Grove. This event is always well attended. The capacity crowd was treated to a wealth of excellent pizza and lots of Oakton camaraderie.

Chapter Chair Patty Lucas thanked her membership for the support and introduced Local 1600 President Perry Buckley. Buckley recognized Lucas’ leadership and reminded the membership that they are in great hands and well represented.

Buckley also introduced the CCCTU’s vice presidents, who were all in attendance, and some others: V.P. Classified Jillian Verstrate, V.P. Suburban Jim O’Malley and V.P. CCC Sonia Jean Powell as well as Treasurer Don Radtke, Assistant to the President Randy Barnette and IFT Field Rep. Brenda Pryor. This grouping of the leadership follows Buckley’s dictum for all union meetings: “If you feed them well, they will come.”

Buckley also introduced CCCTU Suburban College Union Voice correspondent and Oakton College graduate Bill O’Connell. O’Connell received his A.A. in Music Degree when Oakton College was actually on Oakton Street. He now practices what he learned as the leader of the Chicago Skyliners Big Band in a number of concerts, special events and parties. O’Connell’s band showcases not only music from the big band era but also the sounds of more contemporary artists in venues as diverse as the Chicago Bulls' games and the Art Institute of Chicago.

Lucas then coordinated a lengthy raffle of a variety of goods. It is doubtful that anyone went home empty-handed. All in all, a great time was had by all, and the membership went away with a good feeling as a result of this team-building event.
