Retirees Thoroughly Enjoy “Modern Millie”
Do you yearn for the days of women with yard-long pear necklaces and men driving Stutz Bearcats (my dad said his Stutz could pass anything on the road but a filling station)? If so, you may have been at the Drury Lane Theater with the retirees on Nov. 4 to see “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” a 2002 Broadway musical adaptation of George Roy Hill’s 1967 film with Julie Andrews about a small town girl who comes to New York City to experience life and love.
Chapter Chair Norm Swenson greeted folks with lunch tickets and theater tickets at 11:00 AM. One of the earliest couples was former Chapter Chair Pat Dyra with his wife, Ginny. Before the lunch was served, President Perry Buckley was joined by CCC V. P. Sonia Powell, Suburban V. P. Jim O’Malley, Classified V. P. Jillian Verstrate, Treasurer Don Radtke and Secretary Pat Wenthold.
The food was praised. The musical was enjoyed. The 40 or so retirees vowed to attend another theatrical luncheon; the price (subsidized by the Union) was right.
Jay and Mary Singelmann observe as Perry Buckley talks with Vera Davis about Harper College. |
